Corrections Policy

We Get Things Wrong. Here’s What We Do About It.

No news organisation publishes without error. What separates trustworthy outlets from the rest is what they do when errors occur. At TCB, corrections are mandatory, immediate, and permanent.

Found an error? Email editor@thecentralbulletin.com with the article URL, the specific error, and the correct information. We will review and respond within 24 hours.

Our Corrections Process

Step by Step

  1. Reader or internal flagAn error is identified — either by a reader, a source, or through our own review process. Every flagged error is treated equally regardless of who raises it.
  2. Editorial verification (within 4 hours)The editor who published the article reviews the flagged claim against primary sources. We do not correct based on assertion alone — we verify the correct information independently.
  3. Correction applied immediatelyOnce confirmed, the article is updated with the accurate information. The error is not silently removed — the correction is noted transparently.
  4. Correction notice added to articleA dated correction note is appended at the bottom of the article in the format: Correction [Date]: This article originally stated [incorrect information]. The correct information is [corrected information]. We regret the error.
  5. Reader who reported is acknowledged (if requested)If the reader who reported the error wishes to be acknowledged, we include their name in the correction note. Many prefer anonymity, which we respect.

Types of Corrections

Classification

Minor Correction

Factual errors that do not change the substance of the article — incorrect date, wrong figure, misspelled name. Corrected inline with a note at the bottom of the article.

Significant Correction

Errors that materially affect the meaning or conclusion of the article. Corrected inline with a prominent correction notice. Editor reviews the entire article for related errors.

Retraction

In rare cases where an article cannot be corrected — the core premise was fundamentally wrong, a source fabricated information, or publication caused serious harm. The article is labelled retracted and an explanation published separately.

Update / Clarification

Not a correction of an error but an addition of new information that changes the context of an article. Noted with “Updated [Date]:” at the top or bottom of the article.

What We Do Not Do

Prohibited

  • Silently remove or alter published text without noting the change
  • Delete articles because the subject requests removal (unless legally required)
  • Issue corrections under pressure from a subject who disputes accurate reporting
  • Amend article text to change its meaning and claim it as a “minor update”
  • Apply corrections selectively based on who requests them

Editorial Disputes

Process

If you are a subject of our coverage and believe the article contains inaccurate information, you may contact us at editor@thecentralbulletin.com. Please include the specific claim you dispute and the evidence you believe contradicts it.

We will review your claim with the same standard we apply to all corrections. If reporting is accurate, we will not alter it based on your request but may include your response in the article.

Report an Error

If you believe something we published is factually incorrect, please let us know. Every credible report is reviewed by a human editor.
